CFC expands Australian cyber team with appointment of Michael Lewis

Published on December 12, 2024

Specialist insurance provider CFC has announced the growth of its Australian-based cyber team with the addition of Michael Lewis.

cfc-logoStarting in January 2025, Lewis will assume his new position at CFC. Previously, he spent two years at Emergence Insurance, where he served as a business development underwriter. He will be working from CFC’s Melbourne office.

“Mike’s appointment marks an important step forward for our Australian cyber team. While we’ve had an incident response team on the Gold Coast for the several years now, Mike will be our first ever dedicated cyber business development resource hired locally,” added Lindsey Nelson, Head of Cyber Development at CFC.

“His exceptional relationships, development skills and extensive knowledge of the cyber market make him ideally placed to help deepen and diversify our broker partnerships across the country.”

Nelson continued: “We recognise that many Australian businesses do not have insurance protection against cyber-attacks, which is all the more worrying given the significant and pervasive cyber risk. To address that glaring gap, we’re on a mission to ensure that every Australian broker has access to our award-winning cyber cover and Mike is going to play a crucial role in helping us achieve this ambition.”

A key aspect of Lewis’s role will involve providing in-person education and training to support brokers in enhancing their understanding of cyber risks and building confidence. This effort aims to help brokers achieve improved conversion rates and growth in their commercial portfolios.

Lewis will also oversee the management of key accounts and serve as the primary contact for brokers in Australia regarding cyber-related matters.

Lewis commented: “CFC has blazed a trail in the global cyber market, being the first to develop an in-house cyber threat monitoring and alerts capability for policyholders as well as its own in-house 24/7 cyber incident response team. This has made them one of the most established and experienced providers in the market. I’m truly excited to join the team and relish the challenge of helping Australian brokers become cyber specialists and working together to close the protection gap.”
