
Swiss Re’s Lubomir Varbanov expands role to oversee global MDB collaboration

Lubomir Varbanov is assuming additional responsibilities at Swiss Re, expanding his current role as Managing Director, Head of Public Sector Solutions for Asia Pacific to include global accountability of the company’s work with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
In a recent LinkedIn post, Veronica Scotti, Chairperson Public Sector Solutions at Swiss Re, remarked, “Swiss Re has collaborated with MDBs – starting in the credit and political risks insurance markets and more recently via risk analytics and solutions – for over 15 years.
“With Lubo at the helm, Swiss Re will continue to bring deep technical underwriting expertise and broad experience with both short- and long-tenor risk, to support the financing of the most impactful investments by the MDBs.”
Varbanov also serves as a Core Member of the Finance Sub-Committee for the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Singapore (SwissCham).
Before joining Swiss Re, Varbanov spent two years as a Non-Executive Director at Hero Future Energies and nearly 20 years at the International Finance Corporation, where he most recently served as Head of New Business, Infrastructure, Asia Pacific.
Earlier in his career, he served as Group Head of Corporate Finance at BG Group for seven years.
