AXA XL reveals changes to large commercial business & Client/Distribution team

AXA XL has announced several new appointments in its Large Commercial business unit and on its Client and Distribution team, which comes following the recent reorganisation of its Americas insurance operation.
Donnacha Smyth has been appointed Chief Underwriting Officer, Casualty, also assuming underwriting management of both Primary Casualty and Excess Casualty in the Americas.
He previously managed the America’s Excess Casualty book of business, and his team will now address AXA XL’s client’s collective casualty insurance needs including general liability, auto, workers comp and excess or umbrella protection.
At the same time, Eric Donofrio, previously Chief Underwriting Officer, Aviation in the Americas, is now assuming underwriting management responsibility for all Specialty insurance lines including Aviation, Ocean Marine, Political Risk, Trade Credit and Commercial Bond, War, Terrorism and Political Violence, Fine Art & Specie, and Structured Risk Solutions.
Michele Sansone also remains Chief Underwriting Officer, Property, responsible for managing primary and quota share commercial property insurance programs, as well as its equipment breakdown product line. Sansone will additionally lead AXA XL’s Multinational Solution team, responsible for helping its clients build global property & casualty programs.
Meanwhile, Michelle Chia has been named Chief Underwriting Officer of AXA XL’s Cyber, Design Professional and Select Professional insurance businesses in the Americas.
Donna Nadeau, Head of Large Commercial, who announced the appointments, commented, “By simplifying our structure we’re making it easier for our clients to address their insurance needs with fewer touchpoints.
“Having Donnacha’s team as a single point of contact for both primary and excess casualty coverage, will provide greater efficiency in underwriting business and managing claims.
“Similarly, our Large Commercial clients will benefit from easy access to all specialty products under Eric’s oversight. And by creating greater empowerment in our Bermuda and Canadian geographies, we will be able to best serve our clients locally.”
Concurrently, Americas’ Chief Client and Distribution Officer, Matt O’Malley, announced two key appointments to his team, with Maria Duhart joining the Americas-based Client and Distribution team as Head of US – East Zone, and June Dwyer assuming the role of Head of Broker Relations, Large Commercial and Mid-Market.
O’Malley commented, “With some 20 years of broker in addition to her carrier experience, June is well positioned to put our clients’ insurance needs front and centre.
“June’s hands-on broker experience gives her such a deep understanding of what our brokers need to deliver to their clients and puts us in a stronger position to deliver value and help them manage risk in a truly holistic way.
“Maria’s extensive experience in multi-line underwriting management within AXA XL’s Specialty insurance lines uniquely positions her to drive value for our clients and brokers in our East Zone.
“Her underwriting expertise, coupled with her ability to develop strong broker and client relationships, will be instrumental in helping us meet the diverse and complex needs of our brokers and clients in this region which represents our largest concentration of business in the U.S.”
