Sompo appoints Swiss Re’s Tewes as Head of Risk Control CE Commercial P&C Insurance

Sompo, a global provider of commercial and consumer property, casualty, and specialty re/insurance, has appointed Malwine Tewes to the newly established role of Head of Risk Control for its Continental Europe (CE) Commercial Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance business.

In her new role, Tewes will report directly to Ralph Brand, President of Continental Europe at Sompo International. She will be responsible for designing and implementing risk control programs across Sompo’s P&C offerings, overseeing the Risk Control team throughout CE.

Brand expresses his enthusiasm for Tewes’ appointment, stating, “Building upon Sompo’s well-established risk control capabilities and teams in North America, the UK and Asia-Pacific, I am excited to have someone with Malwine’s deep technical expertise and strong management skills at the helm in CE. She is well known and highly respected in the market for her knowledge and also her ability to work closely with underwriters and clients to integrate risk control techniques to improve their business operations.”

With nearly 25 years of experience in risk control, Tewes brings extensive expertise to her new position.

She joins Sompo from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, where she served as Senior Risk Engineer and Vice President. Prior to that, Tewes spent almost five years at FM Insurance Europe S.A., most recently as Senior Account Engineer and Assistant Vice President.

Tewes also spent 11 years at Bombardier Inc, where she held roles including Head of Risk Engineering and Global Risk Management & Insurance.
