Gallagher Re names Spenner International CEO, as Melia to retire

Gallagher Re, the reinsurance broking arm of the Gallagher group, has announced that Dirk Spenner will become International CEO, as Tony Melia is set to retire after a career of more than 40 years.
Spenner, who joined Willis Re in 1996 and moved to Gallagher Re through the 2021 acquisition, steps into the new position as CEO International from June 1st 2024.
Currently, Dirk Spenner runs the Gallagher Re EMEA reinsurance broking business and is also co-head of the Global Property Practice.
Under his watch, the EMEA reinsurance book has seen substantial growth.
Gallagher Re’s CEO, Tom Wakefield, said, “I wish Dirk every success in his new role, and congratulate Tony on a truly remarkable career.”
Melia has worked at Willis Re since 1988 and so moved to Gallagher Re through the acquisition of the company.
